RAMDisk is Freeware (up to 4GB disk size). It creates a virtual RAM drive, or block of memory, which your computer treats as if it were a disk drive. By storing files and programs into memory, you can speed up internet load times and disk-to-disk activities, accelerate databases and reduce compile times. Save and load features allow RAMDisk to appear as persistent storage, even through reboots.

What is a RAM Disk ?
Ramdisk is a virtual http://www.speedguide.net/articles/...-guide-131#" class="kLink" id="KonaLink1" style="text-decoration: underline !important; position: static;">drive created in RAM. The advantage being it's much faster than a http://www.speedguide.net/articles/...-guide-131#" class="kLink" id="KonaLink2" style="text-decoration: underline !important; position: static;">Hard disk drive can ever be, since it has no moving parts - transfers are all electronic. There is a catch, however, RAM Disk is volatile storage, meaning data on it is lost the moment you lose power, or reboot the computer. RAM Disks also take away from your system's available RAM. Once you reserve a portion of the RAM for such disk, it is no longer available for your running programs.

What can use it for ?
It can be used to store temporary internet files, history, cookies, basically any information that's expendable and you need fast access to. Storing such files in a Ramdisk speeds up access time, extends the life of your Hard disk, and reduces fragmentation.

Use A Ram Disk To Reduce Writes On Solid State Drives

The write speed of Solid State Drives is usually lower than the read speed. Many write operations on SSDs can slow down the system performance and reduce the longevity of the drive. Specialized programs such as http://www.ghacks.net/2010/02/10/ss...e-tweaker/">SSD Drive Tweaker or Flash Fire aid the user in optimizing the system for Solid State Drives.
